Paul Elwood moves deftly between the academic world of contemporary music composition and the down-home world of bluegrass banjo. Often the twain shall meet, as he composes and performs in classical as well as traditional and jazz settings, always with banjo in hand. He has had his music performed throughout the world, with musical collaborators including Native American musician Robert Mirabal, banjoists Tony Trishka and John Hartford, electric guitarist Eugene Chadbourne, jazz cellist Hank Roberts and many others. He played throughout this region with Kelly Werts in the Sons of Rayon, and with Susan Mayo in the Wichita New Music Ensemble. He now teaches composition at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. |
